You must have some industrial complex with industrial roads near your home ?Or some type of road that is completely empty at night ?
I just did it on a industrial road ,just watch your mirrors and keep an eye out for drivers coming from behind.
I even accidently locked the brakes with some smoke coming of the tires

Not with enough space =[

So the point is to get a layer of pad material on the discs by getting them both really hot right??

Yes brake hard enough but not too hard. You don't want to lock your brakes. And build up the heat (make enough speed) 8 times braking for example and then let it cool down go ride on the freeway.Don't hold on the brakes after you've done the 8 brake times.Keep riding and cool them down!
The next day you repeat the same process and you're done. You'l def. notice the darker color on your disk and that's a good thing!

Have you noticed any benefit?? Because I will do this on my next set of pads/discs if there is a tangible benefit.

If the bite is gone or your brakes are sqealling then yes you'll notice a difference. You always need to brake in your brake pads.
