Is it really that important that your coolant be silicate free? I was reading about it and it seems like only Honda are picky about this

I read online on a forum that because we have an aluminium radiator, aluminium cylinder head and the design of the water pump seal, we need to have it silicate free, or the water pump seal will fail and additionaly it will slowly (over a long period of time) erode away the aluminium parts
But then a couple of guys and this mechanic I spoke to said theyve never heard of this
