D14Z2 full VTEC conversion

Post by pardizzle21 »

I am today starting my long awaited vtec conversion onto my D14Z2 civic, this is the obd2b 1999/2000 1.4 civic in 3 door.
(Its important to note this car comes with a 4 wire lamba sensor stock,so its one less thing on the jobs list)

Iv found it dificult to get detail of which parts are required for this swap on this particular engine-So hopefully this post will be of help
The aim of this swap is to
-gain proper multipoint injection
-add vtec to engine
-add an ECU that is tuner friendly

My parts list for everything-
-D16z6 head(with rockers,camshaft,vtec solenoid etc)
-D16z6 ECU--P28
-D16z6 distributor/dizzy
-240cc injectors(from a D16Z6)
-AEM adjustable cam gear
-IACV-from D16Z6 intake manifold
-Dizzy conversion harness(ask)
-ECU conversion harness(ask)
-head gasket(d14/d16 alike)
-Throttlebody gasket(because i reused it when doing IM swap)
-IM heat shield gasket
-Oil,spark plugs, coolant, Torque wrench, lengths of wire for vtec solenoid wire up etc

:D I will be updating this page as soon as possible/when i find out how to upload pics and detail! :D

From what you wrote there is nothing that missing for the conversion.
Oh! It's is important to have obd1 IM with it's own sensors to make your life easy for the conversion.
Good luck :)

Quick update

All work completed on the d14z2, everything seems fine!really pleased as it started first time!

However, after rechecking the timing earlier i'v realised i'v made a silly mistake! When crank is at tdc the 7 oclock marker on my cam gear should line up with the marker on the cam belt cover (for an image, click onto "adding vtec to a d14" on the left hand side of the screen),but iv set it approx 2 teeth advanced, with the 7oclock marker lining up with a small notch/semi-circle about 2 cm from the correct timing mark! the cars done 30 miles fine though!! :o

I will redo the cam timing, then ignition timing with my new toy tomorrow and see how it feels.....
Here's hoping :D

basically you have to upload them to image shack and then post the link to the forum

For me it's a first as well! Look's nice.

I've run with one tooth off and still it ran and pretty decent (got 116 bhp without VTEC with the cam wrong on). Found out the mistake when I started working on the VTEC head project and went digging into belt timing myself for the first time... incredible how wrong you can mount D-serie cams and still have something that works.
