D16Z6 should be 7 o'clock.
D16Y8 uses 3 and 9 o'clock (its cam gear doesn't have 7!)

Since deck height is the same of both engines I always wonder if it means the teeth of the crankshaft gear are differently alligned?

Must be that...
How can we know?
Opening two heads solve the problem?
I got acess to an Y8 one.

Nah I got the heads myselfs, it is in the rest of the block I think.

I also never understood why the classic mini-me (D16Z6 head on D15B2/7) gives timing belt problems. I always expected the 103 teeth belt to fit, but tried it myself and really 104 teeth is the way to go. Some minor diffs in the block I expect.
