Hi there, a little question. My girlfriend bought a civic mb with a d14a8, but its really slow compared to my ej9. What can I do with this engine to give it a little extra (in the cheapest possible way, its just a from point a to b car )

1. Check if it has the restrictor throttle body gasket and replace it with 90hp gasket
this modification will be the most easy, cheapest and gainful
2. Camshaft change with d14a3/4, d16y7 (or aftermarket for even better results)
3. Ecu remapping (must swap obd1 ecu)
restrictor gasket for 75hp
normal gasket for 90hp
part number 16176-P1J-G22 for plastic intake

it is a 90 hp, so the restriction won't be there. Camshaft swap? does it need a retune of is it just swap and go?

Have a look at this topic, d14a8 are a bit weaker, heavier and not so aggressive, but with shorter gearbox

Of course with remapping ecu (need obd1 ecu swap) the results will be better.

i'm not gonna swap to obd1, just try to fit only the camshaft and see how it goes. Anyone tried this yet?

We have an almost stock EJ9 4-door right now and a stock MB9 Aerodeck as well. So the 115bhp version. Both cars are tested and the EJ9 has 106 bhp, MB9 has 115 bhp. However the weight of the cars is a huge difference and the aerodynamics. In a race the EJ9 will still beat the MB9, it differs so much because of this as well. I actually believe Honda should have never put such small engines in cars that weigh 1100 kg.
