N/A tuning potential. How far can you go?
In this topic we are going to discuss about the theoretical hps a d14 engine could perform with the right tuning. There are several d14 tuning benchmarks and many others which give the general picture.

I think 250hp is achievable if your willing to put the money in, from a 1.4 though its going to be challenging.

250 you mean with nos right?
I think this is not achievable from an n/a engine. Still something around 200hp from an all motor set up might be done

spose it is a bit high, i believe other d sereies might be able to get there, not the d14 though

Re: N/A tuning potential. How far can you go?
it might be achievable. and we have a good example the civic G-force city NA 1.3L with 160bhp imagine is setup on a d14 engine or in a d16 it would be monumental!!!
my goal in my d16y7 is to get on the 170/180bhp
but i still have a lot of money to spent on it

I've been searching on this, and i've found this:
142.4 hp per litre [dubious – discuss] - 1994 JDM Suzuki Cultus Suzuka edition R13B 138 kW (188 PS; 185 hp) 1.3 L I4 @ Wikipedia.
It might not be as simpled as this, as it could be a racing edition with a bored engine, but it seems to be a tendency for small engines to outperform bigger ones in terms of specific output.
BTW: Suzuki cultus is the ugliest car i've ever seen.
Another great engine from Suzuki is the new Suzuki Swift 1.2 94hp Double VVT. It certainly beats stock D14's, but wait until the mods to arrive

If we are talking about extreme N/a aplications i think you could get 200 Hp.D16's in extreme builds can put out 240 at the crank ,but those are 1.7-1.8 L engines allready.
If both engines have the same mods:
- I/H/E
- both having a head that flows around the same values ,
- a cam that is equal in performance on both engines
- a good ecu tune
For example a D14 with a D16z6 head and a stock z6 cam with I/H/E and tune.
And a D16z6 with stock head ,stock cam ,I/H/E and a good tune.
The most commen figures for those engines with those mods are ~ 140hp for the D16 and ~130hp for the D14.
Which means the D16 has 87,5hp/liter and the D14 has 92,8hp/liter.
If we go any further with an aftermarket cam and intake manifold ,we'd see the D14 get ~ 145hp (Dodo's D14) and a D16 get around ~160hp
The D16 has 100Hp/liter and the D14 103hp liter. The higher the mods/hp the more the D16 catches up on the D14.Higher displacement has always an advantage over the smaller one.But the D14 is a better breathing/working engine imo.It has the character of the B16 engine.

Quote from Endyn:"The combustion chamber is a better shape than the DOHC.So don't chunk those 1.6 SOHC engines, they can make really good power. For a pure performance application, regardless of application, I'd choose the SOHC. No bull!"
Re: N/A tuning potential. How far can you go?
That last phrase made me proud x) not that B16s are the best engines on the world (already thought that some time earlier) but they are quite good x) for engines without direct injection, 90's engines from Honda are superb at the very least !
