A general picture about the cost of d14 tuning.

A crucial thing that many of us bear in mind when we make our tuning plans is the financial factor. Many people consider the money per hp ratio, so as to come to final decisions regarding the tuning of d14.
As many of us have faced these worries, here we are going to provide economical but also performance effective solutions. After all, tuning the d14 doesn't cost a fortune. As i fancy saying, d14 grants the cheapest 25 N/A hp ever!

Do you reckon its cheaper/ better to buy a reconditioned head on ebay like this;

Or to buy a used head from somewhere else and rebuild it yourself, bearing in mind the cost of speacialist tools involved...

Aims:
EJ9 - Now my GF's car.
BB8 - Rebuild after crash damage to front end.
EK4 - Daily driver. Strip and track prep once prelude project complete

I actually run a non-revised head for years now without a single problem.

Hi guys, just new to the site and looking for some guidance before i start my project. I have a 1999 1.4 civic IS with a D14Z4 engine (this is the engine code stamped on the manufacture plate under the bonnet) I was thinking about putting a d16y8 head on this engine as a mini me swap. After reading on the forums about the swap, i have been put off by the tecnicality of wiring the ecu as i have no idea about what i am doing. Is the over all proceedure the same as the d14a3/a4 engines? Also, i have been offered a 1999 d16y8 full engine with 65000 miles or so on it for £200, would it be quicker, cheaper n easier to fit this engine than to do the mini me swap and what parts will i need to swap the d14z4 for the d16y8 engine

hi man!!it all depends on what you want to do. i wouldn't change my happy and reliable revving d14 motor for a d16 for sure. it's easier though to swap the d16 and get more power stock. Have a read of this forum and you will get a general idea about the philosophy of d14 tuning 8-)

Changing the heads is the same probably, but wiring your car up is much easier. Both mini-me swap or entire engine swap you need to add VTEC wires, which is just one with a D16Y8 head. And thats it for you... not the 9 or 11 wires I had to add.
