Most of the times in the middle. The D14 rods is even from top to bottem in the width. The EV1 rod goes smaller when it goes to the top .I think the quality back in 1986 was worse then they made in 1996.(It only makes sence if you think about it ) They both most likely will handle the same power because the older Ev1 /EV2 rods are made with a different (worse) kind of material but much thicker, and the newer rods are thinner with better material.
If we should cyro freeze the ev1 rods to make the material stronger and add some ARP rod Bolts they would be stronger then D14 rods.Downside is the cost of all this would almost be the same if we would buy aftermarket H-beam rods.Cost ev1 rods + treatments ~ 300€ Aftermarket H-beam rods from the groupbuy = €370)
So are these worth it ?Don't know ,there's only 1 way to find out and that's getting the materials tested.
PS: The EV1/EV2 have the exact same dimensions as the D14 rods .Same length ,same big end ,same small end same everything. They are plug and play .

Quote from Endyn:"The combustion chamber is a better shape than the DOHC.So don't chunk those 1.6 SOHC engines, they can make really good power. For a pure performance application, regardless of application, I'd choose the SOHC. No bull!"
