OBD1 swap without professional tune
Hey just wondering.
When doing the OBD1 swap how does the engine run after first start. My thoughts are it will run rich to start with and then when the lambda is up to temperature the ecu will adjust A/F ratio to compensate for the smaller displacement and larger 240cc injectors. Will it do so or does the smaller displacement not matter. I will be using P06 ECU, and i think this uses 240cc injectors so it should work.
I want to run my car for a while on the standard P06 map before i do a Y8 mini-me and tune it properly but I want to know if this will create reliability/fuel economy issues.
Thanks in advance

Give the distributor little advance timing to avoid the rich running.

Is there a precise amount or is it just "till it works". How do you know when its spot on?

If you measure the fumes for oxygen you will know if it is rich or not.
Then if the mixture is rich the spark plugs will be black (after some kilometers, not immediately)

Yes the basic idea is till it works.mynameisowen wrote:Is there a precise amount or is it just "till it works". How do you know when its spot on?

Re: OBD1 swap without professional tune
In my case stock P06 would have been a little rich in the lower regions, but lambda is very close and will shortly after starting be correct. In the higher rpms you even have the risk of going a small bit lean since stock P06 is designed only for 102 bhp, while with common I/H/E you easily hit the 110 already.
P06 Should work fine on non-VTEC D14. I got into trouble after putting VTEC on it, it really needed the P28 mappings badly after that. Think I only ran P06 for a day while having VTEC cam, it was shitty.

Awesome. When you did the VTEC, did you swap to P28 ECU? Or did you get the P06 properly mapped??

Now the P06 is mapped and got the VTEC circuit (needs additional components).
Re: OBD1 swap without professional tune
I will make my car OBD1 soon but without a Y8 head for now.
Can i use ,on the new ECU, D16Z6map? or should i use P06's map?
What runs better?

Re: OBD1 swap without professional tune
What ECU are you using law, P06?? If so, it seems that the standard P06 map should work well enough until you decide to get it done properly. The P06 uses 240cc injectors i believe and you will be using 240cc in the OBD1 swap so the ECU will send enough fuel. The lambda sensor will (when its warmed up) let the ECU know if its running too rich/lean so it can correct.
It SHOULD be okay and its what im gonna be doing when I go OBD1 but I wouldnt reccommend running for a long time...
