I had the impression that bigger T/B in a case like this will give better response to half pedal acceleration. In other words you will go the same fast but with less open t/b. Any experience on that?
TB size was until now just related with throotle response but the pressure theory makes sense. It was interesting to now more about it. Thanks

What do you think half pedal acceleration does with a Tb ?
It promotes Velocity ,use a smaller Tb and you'll get better velocity in a wider rpm range .Like i said before you need to have the smallest Tb without losing HP in WOT at high rpm.Suzuki uses double butterfly plates in their Bike throttle bodies. The first one is the regular tb plate and the second one regulates itself according to the rpm to promote velocity thoughout the rpm range.Same thing in head porting they all want the highest amount of flow with the highest velocity...Velocity is important for good cylinder filling ;)

For long time my girlfriend refused to drive the D14 since the response is insane. I needed 7-12% opening for normal 80 to 120 kmh driving. But with more car experience came more confidence and nowadays she drives it as well hehe.

Getting the gap closed but not stiff closed was also tricky, spend days dialing in the exact stopper position of the butterfly.

At Nick, I will keep it in mind and am seriously thinking about having a run with both TB's. Though indeed the stock might be too small. Mayby I get a 60 mm version or so... have to make sure the MAP sensor is not directly opening to the plenum and the EACV wholes might indeed not line up.

That's what i was thinking about Joris , the opening in the intake manifold would be to big allready for a stock Tb.But you could always try a B16 Tb indeed.
Can you make a new movie of you D14 going true the rpm's ?I like to see how fast it really accelerates ,or the respons.I'm planning to get a short transmission shorter then a D13 tranny with around the same horsepower as you have or a little more maybe. This way i could see if it would be too crazy to put in a very short tranny.

As is i see it, the best would be to tune the tranny after you have complete the engine mods, that is after you have a dynolplot indicating your powerband. And then do your calculations. This is how i am thinking of doing it, unless my stock gearbox goes back on me first.

D15Z6 vs D16Y8

Post by Law_ »

Hi all... i've been told and read it also that D15Z6 and D16Y8 manifolds are equal or very similar but Y8 lacks EGR mechanism. Is this the single difference? Thanks ;)
BTW: i've seen one D16Z6 manifold and i was impressed by its size... it is tiny ! In the pictures it seems lot bigger.

We have had some next to each other, D16Y8 and D15Z6... and as far as we could discover EGR was the one and only difference (we = me and a Dutch guy, Spwan, with EK3 which pulled 150 bhp).
