D13Y8

Post by 007 »

no, that isnt a factory Honda engine but a Frankenstein I put together. specs as follows:

1. D13B4 bottom with PM3 pistons
2. D16Y8 head
3. D15B7 intake manifold
4. Keihin 190 cc injectors
5. stupidly made FFE
6. D15B7 distributor housing with D16Z6 internals. will be replacing with D16Y8 distributor soon.
7. Fidanza 8 lb flywheel
8. self converted wiring harness from SFI to OBD1
9. JDM P30 ECU with Demon board and NepTune RTP. will be moving to a USDM P28 ECU soon.

its been a long and educational journey and finally a couple of days ago everything came together. here is a little video of some idle revving action with stock D16Y8 fuel and ignition maps.

more tuning will follow once I get myself a wideband controller and an EGT probe. :)

this should set the ball rolling for my build thread here. please feel free to pour in your suggestions, comments, questions, etc.

stock was rated at 90 hp at the crank. this was without the Y8 head. it came with a non VTEC head with code P2A.

I would expect somewhere around 110 with this one. numbers aside, I expect the torque curve to be shaped way better. need to see how that turns out.

90-100 at the wheels would be nice but then again, I dont trust dyno numbers to be absolute. there is a lot of fudging that keeps happening here with the correction factors and all that stuff.

Stock 90 wow... can you provide the complete specs? Like CR, rpm at max power, max torque, rpm at max torque. Sounds like a rev happy engine if stock you already get 90 bhp from 1.35 liter while we have eithe 75 or 90 bhp from 1.4.

Ok... the 75 is detuned for tax or insurance and the 90 is underrated since stocks have proven to get 96 bhp out of the box. But still, nice engine!

here are the specs from Wikipedia Joris:

D13B4
Found in:
1996–2002 Honda City LXi/EXi/DX
Displacement : 1,343 cc (82.0 cu in)
Bore and Stroke : 75.0 × 76.0 mm (2.95 × 2.99 in)
Compression : 9.75:1
Power : 95 hp (70.8 kW, 96.3 ps) at 6,500 rpm
Torque : 94 lb·ft (12.8 kg/m, 127 Nm) at 4,200 rpm
Valvetrain : SOHC (4 valves per cylinder) – 16 valve
Fuel Control : Multi-point fuel Injection, PGM-FI

this one says 95 so Im sure they detuned it here a bit. I think the difference comes from the higher CR. the pistons are *almost* flat. pistons code is P3M.

@saxophonias, not sure about the JDM bit.

I hope so, LOL!

pity I wont be able to rev it really high. I think Ill draw the line at 8000 for special occasions and 7500 otherwise. after having experienced a spun bearing before, I dont want to be taking chances with the oil pump this time around. :)

Wow, CR is much higher on this one! Our D14's have stock specs around 9.1 or 9.2...
