Weight reduction
Weight reduction
I am about to put my EJ6 on a radical weight loss program, before I take the gas axe to it, does anyone know the best way to lose weight? Without extreme measures what is reasonably the lowest weight achievable?
Fast, reliable, cheap. Pick any two - because you won't get all three!
Re: Weight reduction
First step is to remove the spare tire, trunk mat and linings.
Second step is to remove the back seat and rear linings.
Then are more to do if you want: like to take out audio (speakers, wiring etc.), also take out sound insulation materials.
If you have A/C, this system has a weight of 15-20 kilos.
Then you can change the battery with EK9 type (smaller in size and of course less mass)
I think there are many thinks that you can do to reduce the weight.
Do you want to build a racing car?

Re: Weight reduction
the bonnet is very heavy too and you can find used carbon ones with less that 250 pounds

I agree that the bonnet is too heavy.saxophonias wrote:the bonnet is very heavy too and you can find used carbon ones with less that 250 pounds
It will be good idea to put carbon one.
I think with reduction weight at the front you will see better balance at the corners too.
Also there are lightweight suspension arms for the rear axle.
You can go even further with weight reduction, as said saxophonias, with carbon parts such as front fenders, doors and trunk door too. All that parts are available on the market for civics, is up to you how much you want to spent in this project!!

And seats, they weigh up to 15 kg each in stock Civics, you can get seats half that weight (or double as I do, but they are comfy ).

Re: Weight reduction
really? I used to think that our stock seats are light, since they produce no side support at all. 15kg is almost the weight of ek9 recaro seats.

Re: Weight reduction
They are cheap design, that is something else than light . Really, weigh that much. Maybe with some models you can hit 13 kg... but I don't believe you'll find lighter ones stock.

both are great. It also depends on the model you are after.
