Ej9 facelift engine SWAP to pre-facelift

Post by henrymilne »

Hi noob here

Ive got a prefacelift ej9 1996 with a d14a4 the engine is wrecked needs headgasket and oil pushing past the pistons. Ive been offered an engine from a faclift ej9 its a d14a4 aswell. I have a friend who can put the engine in for 50 quid. Will it drop straight in and work. Or will there be other things that need sorted?

Cheers Henry

You can swap it, using your car's engine wiring harness.
But are you sure that facelift (1999-2000) civic has d14a4?
As I know the facelift civics have d14z1/2 engines.

Foned the fella selling it and it is a d14z1. Is it definatly plug and play with the d14a4 wiring?

Yes, you have to use d14a4 engine wiring harness with d14a4 distributor to make d14z1 to work on your 1996-1998 prefacelift civic ej9.

Or the alternative way is to use d14z1 engine wiring harness with d14z1 ecu and it's 2 oxygen sensors.

I would prefer the second option because of better compatibility between the d14z1 engine and d14z1 ecu and it's slightly more torque than d14a4. Also the d14z1 wiring harness will allow in the future to go OBD1 very easy just with a obd2 to obd1 Conversion Harness.

Indeed d14z has more nm. If you mount the facelift wiring, with an harnass and mount an p06 ecu, almost ready for chipping.
