John the km/speed is not so accurate as the rev limiter is not 7200 real rpms. This is only what we see on the dial. It must be aprox. 7000rpms.
Also from the pics you show can you understand which gear is integrated on the axle?
D14 with D16Z6 gearbox
Re: D14 with D16Z6 gearbox
The integrated gear on the main-shaft is the second gear.
I think the dial for revs is pretty accurate.
There is a little deviation only.
I know this from my own experience. When needle hitting 7200 revs the engine immediately stalls due to ecu stops supply fuel to the engine.

BETEK, where did you get this info from?BETEK wrote:Personally I would prefer to swap a gearbox from D14A6/7/8
it gives more acceleration
The good point for d16z6 gearbox is that has stronger differential bearings than d14s and from d16y7
I cannot see your image anymore.
Is it official that D16Z6 Gearbox is more reliable than D14A4?
I don't want to have the same troubles with my transmission as I have now !

Re: D14 with D16Z6 gearbox
I don't think that that was a common failure! s40 gearboxes have generally stronger forks than s20 ones.
S20 d13b gearboxes are a good way to go. I would rather have that than the d14a8 that i have now to be honest.

Re: D14 with D16Z6 gearbox
S40 have better forks than s20.
Also B000 have bigger bearings than A000 in both s20 and s40, due to this reason d16z6 (b000) is stronger.
As for D14A6/7/8 gearboxes have shorter final gear ratio and some gears too, so shorter gear ratio=faster acceleration

Re: D14 with D16Z6 gearbox
Is this info (A000 vs B000) written in the gearbox?

It is a reasoanble deduction that the d13 d14 and maybe d15 engines have the smaller bearings and also smaller flywheels/clutches due to their lack of power right? However what happens with the mb series? Do they follow the same pattern?
Re: D14 with D16Z6 gearbox
for Japan and US is written for UK made boxes I don't rememberLaw_ wrote:Is this info (A000 vs B000) written in the gearbox?

Not all d15s have "small" flywheels. The smaller mass of flywheel is for reving perpuse on small enginessaxophonias wrote:It is a reasoanble deduction that the d13 d14 and maybe d15 engines have the smaller bearings and also smaller flywheels/clutches due to their lack of power right? The mb series has the "big" flywheels as d16s
Re: D14 with D16Z6 gearbox
Hey folks,
I have just put a D16z6 gearbox on my EJ9 and now I'm curious how come in 2nd gear I can go well over 100km/h before the limiter kicks in:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01i7PnTt8l4 (dont mind my poor attempt - tires are just too sticky - should probably rev the engine higher but I'm scared of burning the clutch).
Could it be I put on a wrong gearbox? From what I've seen, cars with stock d14 gearbox hit the limiter around the 100km/h mark (sooner if I recall correctly). I know the ratios are virtualy the same but the FD is suposed to be a little shorter on the D16...
Anyone has a clue?
Thnx!

Re: D14 with D16Z6 gearbox
100km/h on tacho is about 93km/h real speed on my EJ9.
How was it before?
Check the gearbox code on the side facing to you when you open the bonnet !
