It is true, our one is just for decreasing noise, i believe it does this just by slowing down the airflow through the intake. If the airflow is slower then less vibrations, and less vibrations mean less noise.
I also noticed a louder noise once removed but it was mostly at WOT like law said.

maybe the ressonator does not slows the flow but decreases air turbulence, so the difference on the sound ...

but i think that the design of the resonator would increase turbulence since the air comes in throught the inlet, goes into the resonator then goes back into the tubing so it would collide with the air that didnt go into the resonator. not 100% though

This was back in the days I had so little power, I could easily get it to top speed without risking too much.
Difference I remember was around 5-10 km/h more, you did not really feel it but the gain was there.
