Question on Emissions Test
Question on Emissions Test
Hi Guys,
I am from the UK and I have plans to modify my D14A4 in the coming months using the methods described on this website.
My only fear is the yearly emissions test. Has anyone had any problems passing these before with an OBD1 conversion, intake manifold and VTEC head installed?
Obviously I would be running a CAT converter for the test but I know they are quite sensitive to things like CO and HC emissions if the engine isnt running perfectly
Is it just a question of tuning it well after installing upgrades and everything should be OK, or am I likely to encounter a lot of emissions issues?
I hope someone can throw some light on this anyway, thanks!

Re: Question on Emissions Test
I'm from the UK aswell. Personally I think it would be fine. The IM swap would cause any problems. CO and HC will only be produced if you have incomplete combustion and unburnt fuel/air is sent out. This would occur if your air/fuel ratio isnt up to scratch but as long as you use the right size injectors, and ECU too match them then it should be okay. I'm not 100% on the VTEC head question though as this will be changed compression ratio's, etc, so may have problems.

Re: Question on Emissions Test
As long as you have a descent ECU tune, no problems. But even without that my car never failed MOT.. that is my D14. Though last time they found a bad spot, no problem since they revved it up a llittle, making it ok. I still have to work out the bad spot for next time .
Even with the SKunk2 cam I passed last year, though this year I put back the OEM ESi cam for safety... since my other car was screwing up all the time at MOT I got anxious.

Thanks for the replies guys. As i suspected the key is a good tune.
Is it worth investing in a high flow cat, Saxophonias? What kind of mileage have you done on yours and was it expensive?

it is a matter of morality actually. with no cat you are faster. with the cat on you are slower but environmental friendlier. I paid nearly 200e for that cat but you can get cheaper from ebay.

Dont slack her till you wreck her, horse on regardless
Re: Question on Emissions Test
wow Would my car pass emissions with this?
Also would this fit on a stock exhaust system?
