Re: Cams for D14
So are you saying the A4/A3 have different cams to the D14A1/A2?? And that the A4/A3 cam is the same as the Y7, just with different camgear??

Re: Cams for D14
yes its a a2 cam.
also 1400cc Cams have flat cam profiles with smooth lift.
you can see here that the ej9 one is pretty big, thats why its a d16 cam in general

Re: Cams for D14
So this is nice info. Perhaps explains the good gains generally on mildly tuned EJ9 engines? The cam wants more .
Pitty that no gain can be made by getting D16Y7 though... always wondered how that would turn out, well you gave us the answer, turns out the same hehe.
Now the funnier part of this story, any idea about this Bisi D14 regrind for a customer? The customer was Sebastix on this forum who pulls 203 bhp now with that same cam! Okay, mildly turbo'ed but still.
Now the funiest part, that was my cam once, the one that got the first OBD1 ECU runned EJ9 with 116 bhp hehe. It's a small world after all . Famous cam, perhaps one day I'll buy it back.

Re: Cams for D14
Bisi allready regrinded 2 D14a4 cams for me .And i also gave him all the engine specs of the D14a4 engine with the R/s ratio and what not when i shipped in my first cam beginning of August in 2008.
I've said it a 1000 times before a D16 engine is not a D14 engine ,and that also goes for the cams.Because of the high R/S ratio and the shorter stroke a D14 needs different timing and lift then D16 engines.A d16 cam will work we all have seen that in the past on Dodo's engine but it isn't the best cam for your engine. And that's what Bisi was telling you or trying to tell you. These are details but in the end they are a big deal.
He was completely right on the "short rod stroke ratio and blabla..." .If you still don't believe it go look it up and read some more on R/S ratio's and short stroke engines and it's effects...

Quote from Endyn:"The combustion chamber is a better shape than the DOHC.So don't chunk those 1.6 SOHC engines, they can make really good power. For a pure performance application, regardless of application, I'd choose the SOHC. No bull!"
Re: Cams for D14
I think my knowledge about engines is sufficient enough, mybe not so much like Bisi but its enough.
In either case it works damn pretty good. Idle is smooth as supplied before and you dont pass emissions.
What about the B16B and the B18C6? Different engine displacement but have the same Cams.
And now we know that the cam in the ej9 is in real a d16 cam.
I had a JDM ZC (1,6) Cam before in my D14A2. It works perfect without any Issues and Fuel Economy was even better.
Sometimes its better to try any things and leave out all the Theoretical Part
