Just reading this for the first time. Which D14A4 you mean, the one you got from me? Really looking forward to the results.
Re: NEW D14 project 150 bhp! non V-tec whahaha :D
hhaha no no no joris the engine u gave me is ended up in the scrap container, except for the rods pistons because i needed the old piston pens to put in my good ones to sandblast them
i have bought an engine for 50 euro's and wen i took it apart everything was as good as brand new and the engine only made 150000 km's if i have to belige the friendly belgium guy.
your engine was pretty much destroyed on the inside it had to deal with a lot of detonation, at leat the rod bearings told me, it just was not efficient to rebuilt that engine
the project is still going now i'm researchint the coating/anodising for my pistons and shot peening my rods, when i completed that part i will move on to the bottom end, iff u want u can come by any time in roermond occasionally friday night:P
Emile would have some great tips for u
and btw your B16 coupe is photograped while waiting in line for the shootout on assen

Nice to know where the D14 ended at least .
Can I acces these B16B pics anywhere? Did some nice burning there hehehe.

Oooh nice... I get me a copy as soon as possible! Hope I am not too late though.
Re: NEW D14 project 150 bhp! non V-tec whahaha :D
last friday i have brought my pistons to the coating specialist, the coatings yes 2 different coatings top and skirt are demonstrated nicely, so i'm convinced they wil do fine and for a price of just 100 euro's it is worth doing it.....
the top coating is a ceramic coating to devide the combustion heat over the entire piston surface (better energy distribution) and is suposed to prevent u from hot spots on the piston surface.
the skirt coating is a dry lubricant coating that will decrease the friction coefficient, because less friction is more power. second reason, iff u are building a high rev engine it will happen that there isn't enough oil on your cilinderwalls and with this DRY lubricant coating it is still lubricated, so less chance on engine failure.
next post i will post some pics showing before and after...

Good job , de skirt coating is called a moly coating.Comes from "molybydenum" or something like that
Since your doing the whole engine i would port the oil pump too (or let it get ported ) and back fill the outlet port again with defcon.
Not that you need it but it's a good back up , if you ever want to change your setup or want more HP or Rpm you know the bottem end can handle more then a stock D14 can.Ow yeah ARP rod bolts too !
I wouldn't get into shot peening or cyro treating the rods as those only cost you money and give you very minimal extra strength.
If you end up making too much hp then the first thing that will fail is your oil layer between the bearings and your crank or rod and Not your rods.
I still don't get why so many people always say they need stronger rods cause they will brake on a simple N/a setup. It's so logical and still most don't get it...
You need to make a lot of Hp to actually brake those rods without failing bearings.
That's why i always say a ported oil pump and stock rods with ARP rod bolts will almost never fail on a N/A d-series engine.Specially on a D14 which has waaaaaaaayyyyy less stress and forces on their rods and crank then any D15 or D16

Quote from Endyn:"The combustion chamber is a better shape than the DOHC.So don't chunk those 1.6 SOHC engines, they can make really good power. For a pure performance application, regardless of application, I'd choose the SOHC. No bull!"
Re: NEW D14 project 150 bhp! non V-tec whahaha :D
I agree with every point u tell, but i'm constructing a device for my dear engine building friend to weight out rods and as a compromis he take care of the shotpeening and it costs me only 50 euro's so it is worth doing. and yes i certainly agree that the stock rods are very very very good of honda engines and i also know that a D14 engine has les stress to take care of.
and the plans with the oil pump.... you took them right out of my mouth hahaha.
but as the endyn building guide told me to bore the bearing oil holes is a NOT DONE because you will only benifit of that when u are driving high revs constantly, if you have bad luck the oil pressure is decreasing dramaticly so i have the plans as u told me combined with some endyn plans and EMC plans.
where ar u coming from btw, i have seen your forum name in a dutch/belgium forum....

Got the magazine Bart .
I am considering building my D14 as well next year. Will really consider what you guys are telling here. Coating, oil pump.
